ARTIST STATEMENT
Brenda Y. Fonseca-Martinez was raised by Mexican immigrant parents in Greensboro, NC, who wholeheartedly devoted themselves to ensuring their children’s success, going above and beyond to provide opportunities for their futures. This led to her attendance at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro, where she received her BFA in painting. Her art portrays her viewpoint of life considering the emotions and trauma related to her Mexican heritage. She expresses this through multifaceted uses of pattern-designed textiles, iconographies, bilingual texts, paints, and other mixed media.
DECLARACIÓN DEL ARTISTA
Brenda Y. Fonseca-Martínez, criada por padres inmigrantes mexicanos en Greensboro, Carolina del Norte, quienes se dedicaron totalmente a garantizar el éxito de sus hijos, haciendo más de lo necesario para darles oportunidades para su futuro que llevó a que asistiera a la Universidad de Carolina del Norte en Greensboro, donde obtuvo su licenciatura en pintura. Su arte representa su punto de vista de la vida considerando las emociones y el trauma relacionado con su herencia mexicana. Esto lo expresa a través de usos multifacéticos de textiles con patrones, iconografías, textos bilingües, pinturas y medios mixtos.
