Youth Programs at GMoA

GMoA offers a variety of educational classes, workshops, tours, and activities for youth, from camps to afterschool programs and more!

CURRENT YOUTH PROGRAMS AT GMOA

    Teen Draw Series (Ages 13-16)

    GMoA’s Teen Draw Series, led by instructor Darlene Williams, will expand students’ drawing skills by experimenting with multiple types of materials including graphite, charcoal, vine charcoal, and pastels, practicing different drawing techniques each week, and replicating artworks in the GMoA’s art collection. This program is a great way for teenagers to explore new drawing approaches and create their drawing portfolios. Students will showcase their work for friends and family at the end of the semester.

  • graphic reading "Visual Arts Academy" for ages 10-14

    Visual Arts Academy (Ages 10-14)

    Visual Arts Academy (VAA) provides an avenue of development for 5th - 8th grade students in Pitt County who exhibit high aptitude, interest, and skills in the visual arts. Students are mentored by GMoA instructors Debbie Huggins and Kim Lunde, who work with children recommended by their teachers to further their learning within the bounds of the NC Standard Course of Study in the Visual Arts. GMoA facilitates the education, exploration, and application of artistic learning in a guided studio setting.

    Dates (Fall 2024): October 1 - December 3, 2024

    Tuesdays & Thursday, 4:30 - 6:00pm
    Price: $275 for Returning Students, $325 for First Time Students

    Museum Camp (Ages 6-16)

    GMoA hosts camp during both Spring and Summer breaks. Museum Camp provides a unique and wide arrangement of art activities for children ages 6-16 to explore. Throughout the camp week, students will learn about the different art galleries at GMoA and work with two to four different art instructors to learn multiple art mediums, styles, and techniques through projects, games, and other activities.

    Dates (Spring Break 2025): March 17 - 21, 2025
    Time: Full Day (9am - 4pm), Half Day (9am - 12pm OR 1-4pm)

    Full Day ($200 for GMoA Members, $250 for Non-Members), Half Day ($125 for GMoA Members, $145 for Non-Members)

    S.T.E.A.M Tours (Grades K-12)

    Held in partnership with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences (NCMNS) in Greenville, GMoA and NCMNS offer guided tours of each museum for K-12th grade classes. Students will enjoy hands-on lessons in both science and art. Each group meets at NCMNS in Greenville for a tour of the science museum, and is escorted by foot to GMoA (1 block away) for a tour of the art museum and guided art activity. Enjoy a well-rounded educational experience in downtown Greenville!
