Accessibility at GMoA
We believe that the arts are for everyone and the Greenville Museum of Art (GMoA) is committed to ensuring that our facilities, programs, and events are accessible to all!
GMoA is actively working toward making its facility more accessible. If you have a need that is not addressed here, please contact Kayla Kramb-Guy, Visitor & Member Services Coordinator by phone at 252-758-1946 or email at info@gmoa.org. We will work together and do our best to accommodate your needs.
Mobility
GMoA has a large parking lot located directly next to the main building, with two accessible parking spots located nearest to the main entrance. The parking lot is accessible from both Evans and Washington Streets and the main entrance is in the middle of the parking lot (not on Evans Street). There is a ramp into the main entrance, though it exceeds a 5% grade slope. The main entrance is accessible by two sets of pull doors. All of the galleries are on the main 1st floor, with a ramp connecting the temporary exhibition galleries near the entrance and permanent collection galleries in the historic Flanagan House.
There is one standard wheelchair available for visitors, as well as bench seating available in most of the galleries.
Bathrooms are available on the main 1st floor near the main entrance (men and women’s bathrooms) and off of the Francis Speight and Sarah Blakeslee Gallery (single stall bathroom) in the historic Flanagan House. There is not 5’ turning clearance in any bathroom for wheel chair access, but we recommend the single stall bathroom for those with mobility challenges as it is more spacious.
Sign Language and Assistive Listening Devices
GMoA can provide sign language interpretation or assistive listening devices for program and event attendees with hearing disabilities upon request. Please note that these requests require notification at least two weeks in advance of a program or event date. To request an interpreter or Assistive Listening Device at GMoA, please contact Kayla Kramb-Guy, Visitor & Member Services Coordinator by phone at 252-758-1946 or email at info@gmoa.org.
Service Animals
Definition of a “Service Animal”: A service animal is defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability and the presence of the dog is acceptable to the event organizer and venue operator. The tasks performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability. Service animals are welcome inside the GMoA and must always remain on a leash or in a harness and wear the proper attire including a tag and or vest identifying themselves as a service animal.
Purpose of a Service Animal: In accordance with the ADA, GMoA staff may ask if the animal is required because of a disability and what work or task the animal has been trained to perform. We do not require documentation, such as proof that the animal has been certified, trained, or licensed as a service animal.
Emotional Support Animals Are Not Permitted: Please note that emotional support, therapy, comfort, companion animals or service-animals-in-training are not considered service animals under the ADA. GMoA will not recognize emotional support animals as service animals.
GMoA Digital Accessibility Statement
GMoA is also committed to providing a website that is accessible to everyone. To further this commitment, we are using Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, Level AA, which provides standards for making web content more accessible for all visitors, including people with disabilities.
Monitoring of Content
In the interest of staying ahead of emerging technology, the GMoA website is tested regularly with the latest software and methodologies to maintain accessible content for all. Specifically, the GMoA website is tested with assistive technology including screen reader software, alternative input (keyboard only) functionality, color contrast analyzers and magnification software. In addition to accessibility compatibility testing, the GMoA website is also tested for usability. It is our goal to not only meet the minimum accessibility standards, but to exceed them by ensuring that the website is also usable. We are committed to addressing any issues that may arise while accessing our digital content and will readily provide assistance as needed if immediate solutions are not available.
