This Just In! Recent Acquisitions

The Greenville Museum of Art, as a collecting institution, holds artworks in the public’s trust as a way to both educate the public and preserve those examples that matter to others in the community or in the region. This Just In! highlights recent additions to the Museum’s collection, including artwork by Francis Speight, Paul Hartley, Catherine Walker, Gail Ritzer, Aleta Braun, James Beaman, and many others.
Visual Art Academy (VAA) Exhibition
December 7 – December 17
As part of the Greenville Museum of Art’s mission to provide and promote the visual arts, the Museum hosts the Visual Arts Academy twice a year for art students from Pitt County Schools. This exhibition features work by the 12 students who participated in the Academy program and benefited from this wonderful, guided studio setting.
ECU School of Art and Design (SOAD) Holiday Sale
November 29 – December 2
The annual School of Art and Design Holiday Sale features a diverse range of art pieces created by students from all areas of study including ceramics, drawing, metals, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles and more.
Proceeds from all sales go directly to the students or student guilds. This is a wonderful opportunity to find unique gifts, expand your collection and support our students!
FOP in Black and White
October 13 – November 19
The Friends of Photography (FOP) of the Greenville Museum of Art (GMA) is a group of museum members dedicated to the support and advocacy of photographic art in Eastern North Carolina. FOP represents a special membership level within GMA’s membership program. Its third annual exhibition, FOP in Black and White, juried by Chris Ogden, honors the significance of the black and white/monochromatic image in human history.
Universe of the Mind: Inquiry & Inspiration by Nature
An Exhibition by Hanna Jubran
September 1 – November 19
Featuring the work of ECU Sculpture Professor, Hanna Jubran, Universe of the Mind: Inquiry & Inspiration by Naturewill present a recent series of sculptures that are based on Jubran’s interest in astronomy and his fascination with celestial objects. Comprised of over thirty wall relief sculptures in bronze and aluminum, as well as large-scale, free standing steel sculptures, Universe of the Mind presents simulations, imaginary universes that suggest important questions about the cosmos. Jubran structures each universe around the four elements – earth, wind, fire, and water – in order to explore our human reliance on each; to study how these elements produce basic shapes in nature; to admire the endless complexities of form that exist; and to imagine the origins of life.
Greenville Brushstrokes: Painting Down East
August 29 – October 8, 2017
Since 2003, Greenville Brushstrokes has provided a forum for regional painters to share their artistic vision and to nurture personal growth in the creation of visual art. In the 2017 GMA exhibition, Greenville Brushstrokes: Painting Down East, the members of Greenville Brushstrokes display their appreciation for regional imagery and culture. This compelling group show articulates the individual passion each member feels for a sense of family, time, and place in eastern North Carolina.
Artwork from Children’s World Learning Center and Walton Academy
August 25th – September 10th
Little Rembrandts features artwork from Greenville’s Children’s World Learning Center and Walton’s Academy Summer Camps. It presenting paintings by 20 different students, each inspired by the landscapes and technique of 17th century Dutch Master, Rembrandt van Rijn. Don’t miss these charming artistic journeys into the artwork of Old Master painters by some of Greenville’s youngest artists!
